Carolyn Herzog is a rarely encountered combination of an investment geek and a people person. She enjoys working with clients to simplify the financial landscape, set financial goals and priorities, and help them reach their goals.
Prior to founding Compass Financial Planning, Carolyn worked for over 15 years in the Financial Services industry. Most recently, Carolyn was Vice President within the Investment Group at Capital Group Companies (one of the largest mutual fund companies in the United States*). In this role she managed approximately $1 billion in assets. Carolyn earned a BA in Philosophy and Economics from Tufts University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Carolyn is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.
Her unique educational blend of liberal arts and finance laid the foundation for what she believes to be her greatest strength: the ability to balance quantitative and qualitative thinking.
“While it is important that I perform a great deal of detailed financial analysis work, I also know when to step back and study the big picture to make sure the detailed work makes sense. This applies to assessing market valuations, considering specific investments, as well as reviewing client financial plans.”
Carolyn feels fortunate to be a part of the wonderful San Luis Obispo community. She has taught courses as an Adjunct Professor at the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly and is also a member and director of SLO Seed Ventures.
